Multitasking is a Real Challenge for Young Brains<\/h1><\/div>

Mul\u00adti\u00adtas\u00adking is \u201cin.\u201d Unfort\u00adu\u00adna\u00adte\u00adly, not for teen\u00adagers. Stu\u00addies cle\u00adar\u00adly show that it is dif\u00adfi\u00adcult for ado\u00adle\u00ads\u00adcent brains to con\u00adcen\u00adtra\u00adte on mul\u00adti\u00adple things simul\u00adta\u00adneous\u00adly. This is par\u00adti\u00adcu\u00adlar\u00adly evi\u00addent in tasks that requi\u00adre various skills \u2013 for exam\u00adp\u00adle, wri\u00adting an essay for the Gym\u00adna\u00adsi\u00adum ent\u00adrance exam. This requi\u00adres an idea, struc\u00adtu\u00adring, style, grammar, and spel\u00adling. A clas\u00adsic pro\u00adblem for teen\u00adagers: once they have an idea, they only focus on get\u00adting it down on paper \u2013 and struc\u00adtu\u00adre, style, and spel\u00adling fall by the way\u00adsi\u00adde. The solu\u00adti\u00adon here is to sepa\u00adra\u00adte the indi\u00advi\u00addu\u00adal steps chro\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgi\u00adcal\u00adly: first, con\u00adsider the idea, then the struc\u00adtu\u00adre, then wri\u00adte it down, then read through and pay atten\u00adti\u00adon to the style, and final\u00adly, impro\u00adve grammar and spel\u00adling. Fur\u00adther\u00admo\u00adre, we aim to prac\u00adti\u00adce the for\u00admal and ortho\u00adgra\u00adphic basics so often that they con\u00adsu\u00adme as litt\u00adle pre\u00adcious brain\u00adpower as pos\u00adsi\u00adble on exam day, lea\u00adving as much brain capa\u00adci\u00adty as pos\u00adsi\u00adble available for con\u00adtent and style. It\u2019s like a dancer: only when one mas\u00adters posi\u00adti\u00adons, steps, and cho\u00adreo\u00adgra\u00adphy in their sleep can they tru\u00adly begin to dance. And only then does it beco\u00adme enjoyable. <\/p>\n
