Gymnasium Preparation 5th Grade Primary Mathematics

Course Content

In the Gym­na­si­um pre­pa­ra­ti­on cour­ses for 5th gra­de mathe­ma­tics, we prac­ti­ce basic ope­ra­ti­ons (addi­ti­on, sub­trac­tion, mul­ti­pli­ca­ti­on, divi­si­on), pro­por­tio­na­li­ty, word pro­blems, geo­me­try, and other topics during one les­son per week. The level of the tasks tends to be chal­len­ging. Using task dos­siers, topics are dis­cus­sed and prac­ti­ced to help your child pro­gress. In addi­ti­on to some group acti­vi­ties, the­re is a lot of indi­vi­du­al prac­ti­ce to train working speed and pro­blem-sol­ving skills. A maxi­mum of 5 child­ren par­ti­ci­pa­te in the les­sons, and ent­ry is pos­si­ble at any time. 

Who teaches and where do the courses take place?

Our tea­chers are careful­ly sel­ec­ted to help your child reach their full aca­de­mic poten­ti­al. In addi­ti­on to a com­ple­ted Matu­ra and a University/ETH/FH degree, our tea­chers working at the pri­ma­ry level have expe­ri­ence in deal­ing with child­ren, as well as the neces­sa­ry pati­ence and sensitivity. 

The Open Learning Space pre­mi­ses in See­feld, Zurich Wie­di­kon, and Ober­strass (kreis 6) offer an opti­mal learning envi­ron­ment for your child, whe­re they can ful­ly enga­ge with the tea­cher and the learning material.

What are the requirements for participating in the course?

Your child should express a per­so­nal desi­re to attend Gym­na­si­um after 6th gra­de. Gra­des in mathe­ma­tics must be at least 4.5. If this is not the case, we also offer a group for child­ren aiming for Sek A. 

What distinguishes our Gymnasium preparation courses for primary school students?

The Gym­na­si­um pre­pa­ra­ti­on cour­ses in mathe­ma­tics build on the chil­d’s exis­ting skills. By repea­ting the basics and app­ly­ing them to more dif­fi­cult tasks, your child can expe­ri­ence a sen­se of achie­ve­ment. Suc­cess increa­ses the enjoy­ment of mathe­ma­tics as well as the moti­va­ti­on to work on new content. 

Trial lessons are free of charge. (Only possible for ongoing courses) 

We would be hap­py to dis­cuss with you whe­ther par­ti­ci­pa­ting in the cour­se is sui­ta­ble for your child. If so, they can attend a les­son to get to know the tea­cher and the learning atmo­sphe­re. Does your child feel com­for­ta­ble? If so, they can start the fol­lo­wing week. If not, we will work tog­e­ther to find a more sui­ta­ble option.
