This year’s Gymi exams are over, and we joyfully congratulate our successful students. We look back on a successful course season, but as always, the pass rate cannot be one hundred percent. And year after year, it becomes clear how crucial the motivation a student brings with them is to their success. The entrance exams are becoming more difficult every year and require increasing commitment from students, including at home, to pass.
At Open Learning Space, we support where we can; we encourage asking questions and addressing difficulties, we point out identified weaknesses, and we provide additional individual practice material where necessary.
But the actual work—consistently completing homework and practicing at home until the material is mastered—must be done by the children or teenagers themselves. This requires a great deal of discipline, which is not always sufficiently developed, especially in younger children. And this is where parents can be a crucial part of the learning team.
The student brings a basic level of motivation; as teachers, we try to strengthen the child’s interest and self-confidence through varied lessons and individual support, and you as parents can help your child stay on track at home through support, encouragement, and perhaps occasionally a little firmness. Constant practice, so that the material can be recalled even under time pressure, is the key to success.
We look forward to the next course season!
