Does your child have difficulty following German lessons at school? Especially in 4th and 5th grade, important foundations in grammar, reading comprehension, and spelling are taught in this subject. In the following school years, this knowledge is built upon, which is why insufficient foundation can lead to problems. Furthermore, the level of German as the language of instruction in other subjects becomes increasingly demanding: From secondary school at the latest, students are expected to express themselves correctly in writing and orally on complex topics such as science or history.
Especially for children learning German as a second language, the material in German class can quickly become challenging. The language may not be strongly present in everyday life—apart from school—and must therefore be actively practiced and reinforced. This, combined with the requirements of all other subjects, can lead to overload. The school-accompanying courses at Open Learning Space not only help consolidate what has been learned and close learning gaps, but also deliberately focus on the students’ real-world experiences. In this way, language skills and general knowledge are taught in an individually adapted manner.
Together with the teachers, who have completed university studies and also have experience working with children, the school material is covered in group sessions. Questions about homework as well as current school topics can also be reviewed individually and reinforced with exercises.
